As PhoneBox is always thinking about the best service for its customers, the company is implementing the 3DS authentication to ensure that no fraud would happen in payments online. What was already trustable is now even safer.
But what is a 3D Secure Authentication?
3DS stands for 3 domain structure. It is a payer authentication that provides an extra layer of protection for payments with your credit or debit card online. This protocol helps to prevent fraud for online card transactions by allowing banks to request more details from a cardholder to verify the purchase. This was created to authenticate the cardholder’s identity, stymie unauthorized transactions and reduce chargebacks.
That means, unless you authorize it, no payments will go through.
The 3DS idea is to provide an additional step to the financial authorization process.
The three-domain model is:
– The card issuer
– The retailer receiving the payment;
– The 3DS infrastructure platform that acts as a secure intermediary for the consumer and the retailer
We tell you how it works!
When you try to make a payment online the 3DS analyzes if it’s necessary to make sure that you are the rightful owner of the card. If it is confirmed the need for validation, you are directed to a 3DS page and asked for a password or PIN.
At the same time, your card bank generates a one-off PIN and sends it to your phone or email and you have to insert the pin on the page of the purchase to complete the transaction.
This process is not always enabled though. It just occurs if the issuer finds reason to question the legitimacy of the transaction or a possible security issue is noticed by your bank.
That’s when you receive a text message or confirmation code via the app to verify your authenticity.
But, it is also possible to enable this additional step to happen every time you make a transaction with your cards online, so you will be asked to insert your PIN for every purchase confirmation.
This new 3DS operates to enhance security measures for all PhoneBox clients, so you can keep on relying on the company to use technology in your favor and not the other way around.
